Solar Panel Cleaning and Maintenance Plans from Bolt Blitz Electric

September 5, 2026Panel Upgrade in Progress: Lake Hughes, CA
Every panel upgrade Bolt Blitz Electric completes starts the same way: a permit application, an assigned inspector, and a job site that looks like this before it looks finished. This is a progress update on an active panel upgrade project we're currently working on in Lake Hughes, California — permit in hand, installation underway.
The Project
This permit is public record through the LA County EPIC-LA system. Permit UNC-ELEC260811008214 can be looked up directly on the EPIC-LA portal — search by permit number to view the active permit status, scope, and inspection history.
Lake Hughes is a small unincorporated community in the mountains north of the Santa Clarita Valley, at the western edge of the Antelope Valley. It sits in the Angeles National Forest corridor — a rural, lower-density area where the housing stock reflects decades of independent construction, additions, and upgrades that don't always follow a consistent electrical infrastructure path.
This Lake Hughes property needed a panel upgrade. What you're seeing in the photo above is the installation mid-progress: a new Eaton meter-main panel unit set into the exterior wall, the stucco opened to create access, insulation exposed, and new wiring runs staged for connection. The green bonding conductor and the flexible metal conduit runs are visible at the base of the enclosure — the work of a job that's underway but not yet finished.

What "Meter-Main" Means
The unit installed at this Lake Hughes property is a meter-main — a single enclosure that combines the utility meter socket and the main service disconnect in one housing. This is distinct from a standard panel replacement where the meter socket (owned and sealed by SCE) and the main disconnect panel are separate enclosures.
A meter-main installation is common in panel upgrade projects where the existing meter socket is aging, damaged, or not rated for the new service amperage — and replacing it alongside the main panel makes more sense than replacing the panel alone and leaving an aging meter base in place. It's a more complete service entrance upgrade that addresses the full service equipment stack in a single installation.
The Eaton meter-main installed at this property is a quality unit — Eaton is one of the primary panel manufacturers used in residential service upgrades throughout California, with a product line that meets California-specific code requirements and is widely available through electrical supply channels in the Antelope Valley.
The Permit — EPIC-LA Antelope Valley Office
Lake Hughes is in unincorporated Los Angeles County. Electrical permit work in unincorporated LA County goes through the LA County Department of Public Works Building and Safety Division — specifically through the EPIC-LA online permitting portal. This property falls under the Antelope Valley Office jurisdiction.
Bolt Blitz Electric handles permit application, submission, and inspection coordination on every permitted project. The homeowner doesn't manage any part of that process — we pull the permit, we coordinate with the inspector, and we handle the close.
